A mild burning sensation may be experienced initially, which is caused by the changed vaginal environment.

KadeFlora lactic acid treatment contains lactic acid in a gel formulation and, with a pH value of 4, corresponds to the natural vaginal milieu. Lactic acid acidifies the vaginal milieu and regenerates the naturally protective, acidic pH value. As a result, endogenous lactic acid bacteria find more favourable conditions for multiplying and can fully resume their function.

The use of a lactic acid treatment is recommended to maintain the natural vaginal milieu.

In healthy vaginal flora, lactic acid bacteria create an acidic vaginal environment by forming lactic acid. The pH of the vagina is around 4. This protects the vagina and lower urinary tract from penetration and colonisation by unwanted microorganisms, which can only spread poorly in an acidic milieu. The naturally acidic pH value may shift to a weakly acidic to slightly basic range for various reasons. The healthy equilibrium of the vaginal flora may be affected by, for example, a change in the hormonal balance during pregnancy, breastfeeding or menopause, as well as antibiotic therapy or a vaginal infection.

KadeFlora lactic acid treatment treats vaginal discharge and intimate odour associated with bacterial vaginosis*, reduces the risk of recurring urinary tract infections and normalises the pH value (also during pregnancy).

* For bacterial vaginosis, as a supplement to an antibiotic (supportive treatment) or for known, mild symptoms as single therapy (alternative treatment to an antibiotic)

An application of KadeFlora® lactic acid treatment over 7 consecutive days, preferably in the evening, is generally enough.

Women prone to recurring vaginal infections should repeat the lactic acid treatment 2 to 3 days a month, preferably after the menstrual period, in order to maintain the natural vaginal milieu. KadeFlora lactic acid treatment can be used regularly as a regenerative treatment.

In case of a brief oral antibiotic therapy for a period of 1 to 3 days, e.g. to treat bacterial vaginosis, the application of the KadeFlora lactic acid treatment can be started after taking the antibiotics. If the antibiotic is to be taken over a longer period of time, it is advisable to start using the lactic acid treatment during the oral antibiotic treatment. In this case, KadeFlora® lactic acid treatment can be applied as of halfway through the antibiotic therapy.

KadeFlora lactic acid treatment should not be used during menstruation. The gel is flushed out with the menstrual blood flow, so that an optimal effect cannot be achieved.

In general, sexual intercourse is possible while using KadeFlora lactic acid treatment. However, it is advisable not to apply the lactic acid treatment immediately before sexual intercourse. Where applicable, the treatment should be applied after sexual intercourse.

Yes, KadeFlora lactic acid treatment does affect the safety of condoms. The tear resistance of latex condoms is reduced. Tests on condom safety were carried out with latex condoms. There are no studies on condoms made of other materials, but here, too, a negative impact can be assumed.

Condoms are safe to use again 48 hours after the last use of the KadeFlora lactic acid treatment.

It does not contain any animal ingredients. However, the use of animal products, e.g. whey, during the industrial production of the individual ingredients (e.g. during fermentative production) cannot be completely ruled out.

Yes, KadeFlora lactic acid treatment can be used during pregnancy. The special applicator with a flexible soft tip is especially designed for use also during pregnancy.

Due to the hormonal changes during pregnancy, the healthy balance of the vaginal flora may be disrupted by the shift in the naturally acidic pH value. Generally, lactic acid treatment is recommended to maintain the natural vaginal milieu.

However, the use of medical devices and drugs during pregnancy should be carried out in consultation with the gynaecologist. Consult your gynaecologist about your symptoms and possible treatments.

We do not consider the application of the KadeFlora lactic acid treatment to be useful in postmenopausal women. During the menopause, the ovaries gradually cease hormone production. Hence, levels of oestrogen are reduced after the menopause. If you do not use hormone replacement therapy, either locally or systemically, the lack of oestrogen leads to a reduction in the number of lactobacilli in the vaginal flora. Oestrogen stimulates the production of glycogen in the cells of the vaginal lining. Glycogen is converted to lactic acid by the lactobacilli, creating the acidic pH in the vagina. A deficiency of oestrogen, and thus a lack of glycogen, causes a decrease in the number of lactobacilli. This favours the colonisation and multiplication by pathogenic microorganisms, which can lead to recurring vaginal and urinary tract infections. In order to achieve a stable acidic pH to avoid re-infection, the lactic acid treatment would have to be applied almost daily. Unfortunately, no clinical data are available on this.
