4 tips

For a healthy vagina, there are a few things you can pay heed to. They help maintaining the balance of the intimate flora. These include:

Clean your intimate area gently with a special intimate wash lotion or with water only to avoid disturbing the natural milieu.

Refrain from intimate deodorants or vaginal douches – these too disrupt the natural balance.

Change pads and tampons regularly.

After a bowel movement, please always wipe from your anus towards the back – and never in the opposite direction!

When should KadeFungin FloraProtect be used?

KadeFungin FloraProtect contains the lactic acid bacteria strain Lactobacillus plantarum I1001 and contributes to the restoration and maintenance of healthy vaginal flora. In general, vaginal application of lactic acid bacteria is recommended if the natural vaginal flora is permanently altered. The body’s own lactic acid bacteria are then present in insufficient numbers. The natural vaginal flora may be altered by, for example, recurring vaginal infections or antibiotic therapy.

By restoring the naturally protective vaginal flora, KadeFungin FloraProtect is suitable as follow-up treatment of vaginal yeast infections, as an aid to prevent recurring vaginal infections* and during antibiotic therapy.

*Clinical evidence of efficacy in preventing recurrent vaginal infections has been demonstrated when used for over 2 months.

What is the difference between KadeFungin FloraProtect (lactic acid bacteria) and KadeFungin lactic acid treatment (lactic acid)?

In healthy vaginal flora, lactic acid bacteria create an acidic vaginal environment by forming lactic acid. The pH value of the vagina is around 4 and protects against pathogenic microorganisms, which can only grow poorly in an acidic milieu. Generally, lactic acid treatment, e.g. KadeFungin lactic acid treatment, is recommended to maintain the natural vaginal milieu. The lactic acid acidifies the vaginal milieu and regenerates the pH value. As a result, endogenous lactic acid bacteria find more favourable conditions for multiplying and can fully resume their function.

The vaginal application of lactic acid bacteria (KadeFungin FloraProtect) is usually recommended if the natural vaginal flora is permanently changed, e.g. due to recurring vaginal infections or antibiotic therapy. In such cases, the number of endogenous lactic acid bacteria is no longer sufficient to produce the protective acidic pH value.

When can I start using KadeFungin FloraProtect in case of a vaginal antibiotic therapy?

You should start using it after the vaginal antibiotic treatment has been completed.

When can I start using KadeFungin FloraProtect in case of oral antibiotic therapy?

In the case of oral antibiotic therapy, the treatment with KadeFungin FloraProtect can be started and carried out in parallel, as the lactobacillus strain L. plantarum I1001 contained in KadeFungin FloraProtect is resistant to a number of common antibiotics and antimycotics.

Studies have shown that L. plantarum I1001 is insensitive to metronidazole, norfloxacin, fluconazole, clotrimazole, nystatin, fosfomycin and miconazole. In addition, resistance to vancomycin can also be assumed, as all lactobacilli strains are generally insensitive to this antibiotic. Likewise, given the proven resistance of Lactobacillus plantarum I1001 to norfloxacin, it can be assumed that it is insensitive to ciprofloxacin, since the antimicrobial mechanism of action of both substances shows parallels.

If oral antibiotic therapy is carried out with an antibiotic to which the lactobacilli strain L. plantarum I1001 contained in KadeFungin FloraProtect is not resistant, use should only be started once the antibiotic treatment has been completed. Please consult your doctor in case of doubts or questions.

Can KadeFungin FloraProtect be used during pregnancy?

There are no studies at our disposal on the use of KadeFungin FloraProtect during pregnancy. Accordingly, we cannot recommend use during pregnancy in the package leaflet. Please consult your gynaecologist. You may use KadeFungin FloraProtect if your gynaecologist recommends the vaginal application of lactic acid bacteria. In this case, the vaginal tablet should be inserted into the vagina without the applicator.

Can KadeFungin FloraProtect be used during menstruation?

KadeFungin FloraProtect should not be used during the period. The lactic acid bacteria contained therein are flushed out with the menstrual blood flow. During menstruation, the lactobacillus strain L. plantarum I1001 contained in KadeFungin FloraProtect can therefore not colonise the vagina in sufficiently high numbers. Accordingly, treatment should be started after menstruation. If the menstrual period starts during treatment, the use of KadeFungin FloraProtect should be interrupted. Treatment can be continued after menstruation has ended. If symptoms persist, it is advisable to repeat the KadeFungin FloraProtect treatment the following month.

Does KadeFungin FloraProtect affect the safety of condoms?

Given the ingredients, there are no indications that the safety of condoms could be impaired. However, no scientific studies or data are available on the impairment of the safety of condoms by KadeFungin FloraProtect.

Generally, the vagina is free of any components of the vaginal tablet 48 hours after the last use of KadeFungin FloraProtect. Accordingly, condoms can be safely used again 48 hours after the last application of KadeFungin FloraProtect.

Is KadeFungin FloraProtect vegan?

KadeFungin FloraProtect does not contain any animal ingredients. However, the vaginal tablets contain lactose.
